1. We use HOW LONG to ask for duration. HOW LONG have you lived here? 2. We use FOR to express duration. We have been on holidays FOR THREE MONTHS. 3. We use the expression FOR AGES to express a long time. We frequenly use it in the negative. I have lived here FOR AGES. I haven't seen her FOR AGES. 4. We  use SINCE to express the moment an action started. We have lived here SINCE 1999. 5. We use JUST to express an action recently finished. We HAVE JUST SEEN the film. 6. We use HAVE YOU EVER to ask for the number of ocasions you have done an activity. HAVE YOU EVER eaten insects? 7. We use NEVER  to say that we don't have this experience.
